Water For People is an international development organization that helps people in developing countries by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programs. Water For People envisions a world where all people have access to safe drinking water and sanitation and no one suffers or dies from a water- or sanitation-related disease.
Water For People uses water and sanitation programs as catalysts for change in communities that lack these basic services. By involving communities, people are empowered to improve their own quality of life. Solutions are local and appropriate, so that the benefits achieved are sustainable.
In 2007, Water For People benefited more than 108,000 people with improved water and sanitation services. The organization is currently working in Bolivia, Guatemala, Honduras, Malawi, and India, and has announced plans to expand services to the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Rwanda, and Uganda.
